Health and Technologies: Health Rights and Changing Gender Relationships

The development of new technologies for communication, diagnosis, and treatment presents significant opportunities to improve health care delivery. At the same time, persistent challenges of inequity and inequality require continued attention to health rights and equitable access to services.

Health policies and practices must respond to evolving gender dynamics, including increases in single-parent households and more fragile partnership structures. At the same time, policies and health interventions themselves can influence gender relations — for example, through expanded access to contraception and widespread HIV testing.

This Work Package will focus on reproductive health in its broadest sense, as well as mental health challenges that are often closely linked to gender-related issues. Activities will include action research alongside strengthened and expanded teaching in these areas.
