Post-conflict Policies and Practices: Hosts and Refugees, Transitional Justice

This Work Package addresses issues of particular relevance to northern Uganda. Following the two-decade insurgency by the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) and the large-scale displacement of communities into camps, there remains a strong need for continued research and teaching on Transitional Justice.

During and after the conflict, more than one million South Sudanese refugees sought refuge in northern Uganda. They now live in refugee settlements where they interact closely with host communities. Given its geographical proximity to these settlements, Gulu University (GU) is well positioned to strengthen its engagement in refugee and forced migration studies.

Both Transitional Justice and host–refugee relations are complex, interdisciplinary fields that benefit from collaborative research, teaching, and community-based projects. This Work Package therefore promotes joint initiatives that connect academic inquiry with local realities.
