In October 2025, BSU hosted a qualitative data analysis workshop focused on recently collected data on refugees and transitional juatice (TJ) by  teams under the Gulu University Centre of Excellence in Transitional Justice and Refugee Studies (GU-CERT).

The workshop was facilitated by Assistant Professor Malin Nystrand from Roskilde University. Joining online from Denmark were Professor Susan Reynolds Whyte of the University of Copenhagen and Associate Professor Line Engbo Gissel of Roskilde University.

“This is one of the best workshops I have attended — hands-on, interactive, and full of new learning. We have had others with more than 100 participants, but this stood out,” said Dr. Enos Kitambo, the workshop convenor.

Professor Whyte commended the level of engagement, noting: “I missed being there in person. It has been a truly excellent workshop. Thank you, colleagues, for making us part of it.”

In her closing remarks, BSU Coordinator Dr. Agatha Alidri emphasised the value of the training, noting: “Gulu University is not yet fully grounded in qualitative research. For us, this workshop represents an important step in building capacity.”
